This page provides a general overview of steps to begin and finish an All of Us Research Project.

Getting Ready to Use the Research Hub

Sign up for an Account

  • Complete Required Trainings

  • Agree to the Data User Code of Conduct, DUCC

  • Create a separate Chrome Profile

  • Set up double-factor authentication

Plan A Project

  • Discover ways the data is being used on the Research Projects Directory

  • Plan a project with the Data Browser

  • Refer to expectations defined in the Stigmatizing Research Policy, Ethical Conduct of Research Policy, and

Setting up your Research Project in the Research Hub

Create a New Project

  • Create a Workspace for each unique project in the Research Hub

    • Select a Data Tier for your project

    • Provide a public summary and purpose of your project.

Create a Data Set

Import your query and resulting data frame into a Jupyter Notebook, RStudio, or SAS Studio as follows:

  • Use the Cohort Builder to select participants for analysis.

  • Use the Concept Set Builder to select relevant variables.

  • Use the Dataset Builder to query the database, then directly import your query into the analysis environment.

  • Alternatively, build or modify SQL queries directly in Jupyter without using the Cohort and Dataset Builders.

Data Analysis and Management Research Hub

Analyze your Data Set

  • Run your analyses environment in Notebooks, a cloud based analysis environment.

    • Available environments include R and Python based Jupyter Notebooks and SAS Studio.

Create A Billing Account

  • If you plan to exceed the initially provided $300 to begin your project and initiate an analysis environment then you will be prompted to create a Billing Account using Google Cloud Platform.

Public Dissemination

Publish your Results

  • Refer to the Data and Dissemination policy in regards to statisstics that may be reported using All of Us data.

  • Refer to Publication and Presentation Policy in regards policies regarding public dissemination of manuscripts.

    • Submit an All of Us Publication and Presentation Reporting Form at least two weeks in advance.

    • Submit final versions of peer reviewed manuscripts to PubMed Central for immediate public access.

Community Resources

  • Publish your work to the Community Workspace to share your findings with the rest of the All of Us Community.
