What is the All of Us Research Hub?

The University of Southern California (USC) contributes data to the National Institute of Health’s (NIH) All of Us Research Hub with the aim of establishing one of the largest biomedical data resources. The All of Us Research Program’s centralized, secure, cloud-based platform allows researchers across a wide range of settings and institutions and at all stages of their careers (e.g., students, early-stage investigators) to execute rapid, hypothesis-driven research with just a computer and an Internet connection. The initiative aims to facilitate diverse research accessible to academic, citizen, and community researchers. It emphasizes inclusivity and privacy while advancing health research, particularly among underrepresented populations.

Things you can do in the Platform

  • Access a large and diverse sample encompassing various living areas, age groups, and conditions.

  • Utilize an extensive electronic health record (EHR) database.

  • Explore connections between EHR data, genetic information, environmental factors, and questionnaire responses.

  • Collaborate with other researchers using shared tools and workspaces for analyzing data together.

  • Benefit from innovations and insights from other studies and groups.

Platform Goals

  • Diversity & Inclusion: Build a diverse and inclusive database with over one million participants, representing a wide range of demographics, including historically underrepresented groups in biomedical research.

  • Longitudinal Data Collection: Gather comprehensive, long-term data to track health outcomes over time, enabling research on various health conditions and their progression.

  • Data Security & Privacy: Ensure participant data is securely stored and privacy is protected through stringent measures and de-identification techniques.

  • Research Accessibility: Provide a secure and user-friendly platform for researchers to access and analyze data, promoting wide use and innovation in health research.

  • Collaboration & Transparency: Foster collaboration among researchers by allowing shared workspaces and publicly posting research summaries to maintain transparency.

  • Advancement of Precision Medicine: Support the development of precision medicine by providing detailed and diverse data that can lead to personalized healthcare treatments and interventions.

  • Ongoing Learning & Improvement: Continuously enhance the platform with new data types, tools, and resources to support evolving research needs and scientific discovery
