Mapping the DHS Shared Drive

If you are working remotely, the steps below MUST be completed by logging into the DHS VDI system or by remoting into a DHS computer.

The Informatics Core will create your shared drive folder on the DHS intranet for file transfer. Other study personnel on the IRB who are permitted to view identifiable data and may need to view the shared folder must have their DHS investigator directly email Helpdesk@dhs.lacounty.gov and cc Alma Vazquez at avazquez@dhs.lacounty.gov, to grant that study personnel direct access, so that they may map the folder as well. This folder will be the only secure pathway for the transfer of all incoming DHS research data and the delivery of outgoing data. If you have already provided your C# or E# and submitted your Network Request Form to the DHS Helpdesk and avazquez@dhs.lacounty.gov, and have received notification from our staff that your folder is ready to be mapped, please follow these steps:

  1. Log in to the DHS VDI: https://mydesktopdc1.dhs.lacounty.gov/portal/?includeNativeClientLaunch=true using your DHS email and password.

  2. Click on the folder icon at the bottom of the desktop.

3. In “This PC,” Click on the computer tab at the top of the window and select Map Network Drive.

4. In the drop-down, ensure you choose whichever letter has the folder path text populated next to it.

5. In the path, please enter the FULL path \\mlkdc1.dhs.lacounty.gov\ha\shares
This address is case and space sensitive!

6. A folder HSA-Informatics Core will show. Follow through to your respective folder.

7. Click Yes to all of the following messages that prompt after hitting finished.

8. After mapping, the DHS Shared Drive will appear in your Folder icon automatically when you click “This PC” and look under “Network Locations.” The DHS shared drive folder is now mapped and should now be available for use. Once we complete your research data request, you may access your data in the Outgoing sub-Folder. If you would like assistance mapping this DHS shared drive folder, please call DHS Helpdesk IT 323-409-8000 or email Alma at avazquez@dhs.lacounty.gov.
