What is i2b2?

i2b2 (Informatics for Integrating Biology and the Bedside) is an online, self-service cohort discovery tool. The informatics framework was developed at Harvard and designed to simplify the process of using existing, de-identified, clinical data for preliminary research cohort discovery.

Researchers at USC, including faculty and staff, can request access to i2b2. The tool allows researchers to:

  • Explore patient cohorts and identify cohorts of interest

  • Obtain aggregate patient counts to assess study feasibility

  • Request identified, patient-level data*

    • *Requires IRB approval
