Origin of Data: Demographic data is pulled from the patient’s electronic medical record. These are typically self-reported fields.
Dates: Only the patient’s most recently entered (current) demographic data is available in i2b2. Date restrictions cannot be applied to demographic data variables when running queries in i2b2

Age | Patient’s current age in years. For patients 0-36 months old, month-by-month age variables are available. There is a separate age variable under ‘Visit Details’ that allows you to search for patient’s age at the time of a certain encounter (ex., age at time of a procedure) |

Hispanic | Whether the patient identifies as Hispanic or Latino. |

Race | Patient’s self-reported race. |

Sex | Patient’s sex assigned at birth. |

Vital Status | Whether the patient is known to be deceased per the medical record. Note that we currently only have data on patients that passed away while admitted to the hospital. |
